Center for Social Value Creation

College Park, MD, United States

Robert H. Smith School of Business
University of Maryland

The Center for Social Value Creation (CSVC) embodies a passionate mission: educate, engage and empower Smith students to create a better world through business.  We imagine a future where companies, communities, society and the natural world collectively thrive. Social value creation is about using the tools of business to help us get there. Through courses, programs, and industry collaborations we prepare students to be business leaders able to advance economic, social and environmental prosperity. Our work is rooted in five Principles for Better Business.

Main Activities

The Center is student-focused and offers experiential programming, content delivery through coursework, and acts as an influencer and educator on the University of Maryland campus. Key programming includes a.) our Lunch & Learn series that connects students to industry thought leaders, facilitates genuine dialog, and helps to foster real-world connections; b.) our Skills Workshop series that equips students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to employ the Principles for Better Business framework in the real-world; c.) our Impact Ambassadors program that provides a resume-building, co-curricular experience for undergraduates where they gain leadership visibility, network with industry professionals, and work directly with Center leadership to advance the Center’s mission ; d.) the Social Innovation Fellows Program, a year-long, for-credit experience that immerses students in the role of entrepreneurship – and intrapraneurship – in driving positive social and environmental change through business; and e.) our Spring Convening that delivers engaging speakers, cutting edge industry insights, and networking opportunities via a day-long conference held right here at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Organizational Structure

The Center is comprised of one full-time staff member, an external senior advisor, two graduate assistants, and one undergraduate intern. The Center reports directly to the Dean’s office, through the Dean of Academic Affairs. Full-time staff includes Kim Robertella Glinka, Director.
